As a 25 year resident of San Diego, I don't feel it's necessary to fly a 65 foot flag displaying gay pride. I will not be visiting Hillcrest anytime soon to make any purchases to support this display.

As a 35-year resident, I love this community and treasure its diversity, but I have to confess that as a hetero man the pride message just doesn't resonate with me. I hope that the monument will carry some message making it clear that it's also, and equally, about celebrating diversity.

Elaine - Don't be sad, friend! The sign that was sold is currently rusting away in a city lot. The brand new sign is hanging above University Avenue where it will remain. The old sign will now be on display inside the soon-to-be rebuilt Obelisk Shoppe which has been a staple of the Hillcrest community for nearly 20 years. It will be safe from the junk heap of history and visible for all community members and tourists for years to come.

Why are you selling it? That makes me very sad that you would get rid of a very cool and the classic landmark sign!!! What is the plan after you take it down? I love that sign and very sad about this news.
