Discover Mural Alley

From crime and trash comes art, light and community.

Mural Alley is Hillcrest’s urban street art mural gallery. This classic urban alley space features dozens of murals created by some of the region’s best known street artists. The Alley was created by a variety of individuals and groups within the neighborhood including the folks at The Studio Door, a working artist studio collective and gallery space, local property owners, Eddie Reynoso of the San Diego LGBT Visitors Center, the organizers of the monthly arts showcase Walk in ART, and many many other groups an individuals. The branding for Walk in ART was developed by Tunnel Vision Creative Agency that champions Black creative voices, The lights in the alleyway were paid for by community donations. The alley is the center of Hillcrest’s vast mural collection.

Mural Alley was once a crime and trash strewn loading zone. Still very much an urban space, this well lit and decorated alleyway shows what communities can do when they step forward and decorate a neighborhood space. The HBA regularly cleans mural alley and installed decorative lighting.
